After serving his constituents exceptionally well in the State House of Representatives for two terms, Ron Maurer decided to give up his seat to run for State Superintendent of Public Education, against incumbent Susan Castillo, hoping to improve our failing public education system. The incumbent won by a very close margin. Ron has now accepted a position in Washington, DC, as director of Congressional Liaison Services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. He will start on January 18. As a veteran, himself, Ron is dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of other veterans who have served our country. We wish Ron all the best in this new chapter in his life. He has served us well, here in Josephine County, as a State Representative, and he will serve our honored veterans well on a national level now. God bless you, Ron Maurer.
Wally Hicks ran for Ron’s seat in the House of Representatives, with Ron’s endorsement, and won easily. Wally will be sworn in, in Salem, on January 10. Ron is going to be a tough act to follow, but Wally is an ex-Marine, so he’s used to tough challenges. We wish Wally all the best, and expect great things of him!
