Concerned Parent Books in School Libraries

Written by: Andrea Wakeland

Hello, I am a parent of a current GPHS student and RVS Elem student. My kids have went to SD7 schools their whole childhood so far, and my self and their father also, starting in the mid 80s. We love our schools and love our kids.

We are extremely concerned about what is being put into, or has been for a while now, in their libraries. We are business owners, alot of our hard earned money stays right here and enriches the local schools. One of our families businesses actually built, fabricated and donated the racks for the GPHS football teams helmets. Like I have stated, we love our schools and love our kids. I have also held a spot as a parent on the board of SOELS, southern oregon early learning services. As well as on the SO Head Start policy council and hiring committee, and an SAA in Administration, for enrollment and recruitment for JO CO SO Head Start as well… I’ve seen alot of the politics, I know what goes on, the who’s who, etc. I’ve spoke with hundreds of other parents who also feel the same as my self and my family. My own children also, do not want to see these types of literature in their libraries, that we, as the public, supply with our taxes. There are 4 books that I have recently been informed of, and they are as follows;

*

1. Night of the Living Queer

2. All Boys Aren’t Blue (Contains graphic descriptions of a*nal s*x, ma$turbation, inc*est, o*ral s*x, multiple uses of profanity)

3. Flamer (references ejaculat*on, uses the F word 15 times, the S word 13 times, references por*n, mast*urbation, etc.)

4. Beyond Magenta (F word 15 times, Di*k 10 times, references to pedo*hlia, sui*ide, etc.)

Altho this is not a political issue, or an “us vs. them” issue, I believe it’s an issue of right and wrong, moral and immoral- the line was drawn long long ago, but just recently started being pushed back and pushed so far it seems to be disappearing, in society in general, and being pushed into OUR children’s schools even!

I will also let you know I am involved with Jo Co GOP, and we are all very upset at what is being allowed into our school systems. These are OUR CHILDREN, these are OUR TAX DOLLARS. WE, the people need to be heard. We do not want these types of things in the hands of our children.

It is not up to government to parent our children, it is upto us as parents, and if we do not want these things in the hands and eyes and minds of OUR children then we need to be heard and ANY AND ALL material like the ones mentioned above need to be removed from all of our schools, immediately.

This is a very serious issue and needs to be addressed right away, kindly.

I would like to hear back, on your own thoughts on these “materials”, and why they have been placed in underage hands to even begin with.

Thank you, kindly-

Andrea Wakeland
