Repeal Wildfire Map with HB 3944 or SB 678

There are three bills to repeal the wildfire map and modify SB672: HB3944, SB678 and SB83. Both HB3944 and SB678 are the best options at repealing the vast amount of unacceptable issues found that are found in SB762 whereas SB83 still leaves many troubling issues intact. Both HB 3944 and SB 678 repeals the wildfire map, home hardening mandate, modifies defensible space and in addition to other good things.

Sample Letter #1
Subject: Please support HB 3944 & SB 678 – Stop the Burden on Rural Oregonians

Dear Senators and Representatives of Oregon State,

I am writing to strongly urge you to support House Bill 3944 and Senate Bill 678. SB 762 has placed unfair and costly burdens on rural Oregonians, forcing homeowners to comply with defensible space mandates, home hardening requirements, and excessive regulation, all under threat of fines.

What’s worse, SB 762 failed to address the real wildfire risk, the vast state and federal lands that remain uncleared and unmanaged. Instead of holding government landowners accountable for reducing fuels, this law unfairly shifted the responsibility to private property owners.

HB 3944 and SB 678 repeals the most damaging portions of SB 762, including the wildfire map, home hardening mandates, and land use restrictions. They also remove the unnecessary “seller disclosure property statement” requirement. These bills are critical to stopping the overreach and unfair targeting of rural Oregonians.

Please support HB 3944 and SB 678 to protect property rights and bring fairness back to Oregon’s wildfire policies. Thank you for your time and leadership.

Sincerely,

Sample Letter #2
Subject: Support HB 3944 & SB 678 – End Unfair Wildfire Mandates

Dear Senators and Representatives of Oregon State,

As a concerned Oregonian, I urge you to support HB 3944 and SB 678. These bills are essential in repealing the harmful policies imposed by SB 762, which has placed unfair mandates on rural homeowners while ignoring the real problem, unmanaged state and federal lands.

SB 762 forces property owners to comply with defensible space requirements, home hardening mandates, and unnecessary land use regulations, all while government land remains a major wildfire hazard. Additionally, the required “seller disclosure property statement” adds another burden to homeowners.

Rural Oregonians should not be the scapegoat for wildfire prevention. HB 3944 and SB 678 correct this injustice by repealing the worst provisions of SB 762. Please stand with us and support these bills to protect property rights and fairness for all Oregonians.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.

Best regards,

Sample Letter #3
Subject: Protect Property Owners – Repeal SB 762 with HB 3944 & SB 678

Dear Senators and Representatives of Oregon State,

I am writing to ask for your support of HB 3944 and SB 678 to repeal the most damaging parts of SB 762. This law has placed an unfair burden on rural homeowners while failing to require state and federal landowners to manage their own wildfire risks.

SB 762 mandates costly defensible space and home hardening requirements, imposes potential fines on homeowners, and adds unnecessary land use restrictions. It even forces sellers to disclose wildfire risk, making it harder for rural property owners to sell their homes. Meanwhile, government lands continue to be overgrown and unmanaged, posing a far greater wildfire threat.

HB 3944 and SB 678 will repeal these overreaching policies, restoring fairness and protecting rural Oregonians. I urge you to support these bills and ensure that wildfire prevention efforts are based on real solutions—not unfair mandates on private citizens.

Thank you for standing up for Oregon’s rural communities.

Sincerely,
