The Board of Commissioners is the governing body of the county. Within the limits of state law and county charter, the board is empowered to adopt ordinances, establish programs, levy taxes, appropriate funds, make appointments and zone property in the unincorporated area. In addition, members of the board represent the county on numerous intergovernmental bodies. Board members, in partnership with county staff, work to ensure the services and programs essential to the prosperity of Josephine County continue to be delivered. 

The three members of the board are elected on a non-partisan basis to serve four-year terms. At the beginning of each year, the board chooses from its members a chairperson and a vice-chairperson to serve during the ensuing year. The chairperson presides at board meetings and signs documents in the name of the county. The vice-chairperson substitutes when the chairperson is absent.

Ron Smith is running for Position 3, which is currently held by Commissioner Lily Morgan.

Josephine County Assessor services and duties include:

• Locate and identify all taxable property
• Inventory all property including quality, quantity and important characteristics
• Estimate the market value of each taxable property
• Answer appeals and explain the assessment process used
• Administer all special assessment statutes relating to certain classes of property
• Calculate the tax rate and compute each tax bill
• Prepare the assessment roll
• Prepare and maintain cadastral maps
• Maintain property ownership records
• Perform manufactured home title transfers

We have moved our meeting date to the 3rd Wednesday of each month in an effort to better distance our meetings from the GOP party’s First Monday meetings, which many of you attend. We are excited about our new meeting location, which will accommodate more people in a relaxing, secluded atmosphere. There are a variety of breakfast and/or lunch items available for your dining pleasure!

This will be a lively and interesting meeting! Get to know Ron and Keith on a more personal level. Find out why they are running for office, what their vision of success entails. and what we can do to help them. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of both candidates.
