Response to Russell Mc Almond’s letter to the Courier

Contributor: Candice Kaiser

Russell Mc Almond wrote a letter to the Courier newspaper about the Republican Party that reflects a rather pessimistic perspective. In his piece, he claims that the Republican leadership is dishonest about candidates within their own party.

Russell wrote: “Republican leadership is outright lying about candidates from their own party. They have posted publicly on social media that Colene Martin (Republican) and Jay Meredith (Republican) have been endorsed by the Democratic Party — which is a complete lie.”

Hold your horses, Russell…. Josephine County Democrats openly endorse these candidates, as evidenced by their logo on the attached document and website. Colene and Jay are not the only Republicans being endorsed by the Democrats; Sara Bristol and Vanessa Ogier recently registered as Republicans for the May Primary after having been registered as Democrats. However, there seems to be more to that story for another time.

If Russell is trying to suggest that “support” and “endorse” hold different meanings, he is wrong. The Democratic Party is clearly both supporting and endorsing this slate of candidates. Russell, it’s time to take off the dark glasses and see the reality of the situation.
